Should You Buy Leads?

It’s no secret that leads are the lifeblood of a network marketing business. Without them, your network will never grow. There are many ways to build a solid lead pool, but one of the easiest ways is to buy a list of leads, often called a “Leads List.”

There are many companies offering leads, and most of them advertise heavily on the Internet. Do a quick Google search for “Network Marketing Leads” or “MLM Leads” and you’ll get plenty of results. And because the business is so competitive, you’ll often find them listed in Google’s Pay-Per-Click advertising systems.

There are several pros and cons to buying a leads list, but for the sake of time I’ll focus this article on several situations when such lists come in handy.

Time.

This is the biggest one. Prospecting your own leads takes considerable time, and the conversion ratio is usually pretty low. While churning your own leads is preferable, sometimes you simply don’t have the time to prospect for several hours per day.

Most companies that sell leads offer pre-qualified leads, meaning they have done something to suggest they’re open to a network marketing opportunity. This means that even though the leads are “cold” they aren’t completely frigid. That means your cold-to-warm conversion will likely be higher. Which means you’ll spend less time building a warm lead pool.

Money.

Advertising your business – be it on the Internet or through offline mediums – costs money. You’ve probably heard the old saying, “It takes money to make money.” Network Marketing is no exception.

The question then becomes, where do you want to invest your money? Leads are a great investment, and offer a decent conversion rate – which means the sign-ups will probably pay for the cost of the list relatively quickly.

Don’t Like Personal Prospecting.

Not every network marketer works the streets in a high pressure, door-to-door fashion. Many choose not to for moral reasons, while others simply aren’t good at it. If you fall into one of these categories, purchasing leads might be a viable option. Since most reputable leads solicitors only forward contact information for individuals who have intentionally requested MLM information, you’ll be dealing with warmer leads.

While some aggressive network marketers have reported great success by soliciting their opportunities in person, it’s not for everyone. And a purchased leads list provides a useful alternative.

Conclusions.

Purchasing leads is a legitimate way to build your cold and warm lead pools, hopefully saving you time and money in the process.

So what should you look for in a leads list? Check back soon, as I’m planning on exploring this issue later.

I’ve done it both ways. I usually try to build my leads naturally, but there have been times when I’ve ponied up the cash and bought some leads. You’re right, there are times when buying them makes much more sense.
