Besides, I’ve noticed that most people who offer “here’s exactly what you should do” advice aren’t really that successful. Probably because they are following the advice of other people themselves.

You know what makes you feel comfortable, and you’ve probably started to get a feel for what creates the best results. Follow your gut and your head. If a particular technique is working well, by all means continue using it!
The one piece of advice I would tag onto this (there’s always something, right?), is to continually test variations of your strategy. Let’s say you are really doing well by advertising in your local newspaper. Try testing different text within the ad itself. It doesn’t have to be much, maybe just a few different words here and there. If it converts better, keep it. If it doesn’t go back to the original.
