  • Company A builds a product
  • Company A hires Company B to ship the product to a whole sell warehouse

  • Company C sells the product to Company D

Each step in this model costs money, which means you’re looking at five price increases before the product ever ends up in a customer’s hands. And this illustration is probably very conservative, as I’d guestimate that more than 10 companies are involved in most products these days.

Network Marketing, on the other hand, skips all of those middle steps and concentrates on the producer (the network marketing company) and the final consumer. Then it puts you in the position of all of those in between stops. That means all the money that normally gets wrapped up in warehousing, logistics and shipping ends up in your pocket instead!

No offense to well-intentioned friends, family and even upline mentors, but you aren’t like them. You are you. If you want to find your place in this industry, you’ll need to focus on what works for you, not them. Because chances are what works for them won’t work for you, and vica-versa.

Besides, I’ve noticed that most people who offer “here’s exactly what you should do” advice aren’t really that successful. Probably because they are following the advice of other people themselves.

This is especially true for MLM prospecting, as everybody seem to think they are an expert. And in many ways, they are. But for those same reasons, so are you. You know what makes you feel comfortable, and you’ve probably started to get a feel for what creates the best results. Follow your gut and your head. If a particular technique is working well, by all means continue using it!

The one piece of advice I would tag onto this (there’s always something, right?), is to continually test variations of your strategy. Let’s say you are really doing well by advertising in your local newspaper. Try testing different text within the ad itself. It doesn’t have to be much, maybe just a few different words here and there. If it converts better, keep it. If it doesn’t go back to the original.
